Specifically and distinctively designed for women's wear during condolence service. Mithi puon is a black shawl with small stripes in yellow and red near the edges. This shawl was designed to distinguish members of the tribe during condolence services. Though it was of recent origin, the shawl has been widely used to meet its purpose. The shawl was first designed by the then Gangte Youth Association (General headquarters) wayback in the 1980s (information provided by Gangte Songminlun, T (40), General Secretary, Gangte Youth Organisation (Ghqs), Imphal & Secretary, Gangte Literature Society, Manipur).
